Michigan Private Time Frames

Step 1: Notice

Request Copy of Notice of Commencement.
Notice to the owner and to general contractor within 20 days of first furnishing, 30 days for laborers (full price lien).
Late notice - protects unpaid funds between owner and general contractor at time served.

Step 2: Lien

Within 90 days of last furnishing labor or material. Serve on owner within 15 days of filing.

Step 3: Foreclosure

Within 1 year of filing lien.
