Rhode Island Public Time Frames

Step 1: Bond Claim

Notice to the contractor within 90 days of last furnishing labor, material or services. Notice is not required when contracting with the principal (prime contractor).

Step 2: Suit Against Bond

After 90 days from last furnishing labor, material or services and within 2 years of last furnishing, or under the maximum time limit as contained within the payment bond whichever period is longer.

Bond Bits

Contracts less then $50,000 for public roads or bridges are excluded from bonding requirements.
Amount of Bond: Not less then 50% not more then 100% of contract price.
